About Runable
Runable builds an AI agent that helps small businesses run day-to-day operations across web, mobile, desktop, and messaging. It can build and deploy websites and apps, create documents and slides, browse the web, and complete long-running work in secure sandboxes.
We are a small team, so engineers work across the product and infrastructure. Titles are useful; shipped work is more useful.
About the role
As a Software Engineer Intern, you will work with the engineering team on production systems across the agent runtime, durable execution platform, infrastructure, and customer-facing product.
This is a new-grad internship for builders early in their careers. You will own real work, ship code, and learn by solving problems customers actually encounter.
What you'll do
- Build and ship production features across the agent, backend, and product surfaces.
- Work on model orchestration, tools, resumable workflows, evaluations, and customer-facing experiences.
- Debug production issues and improve reliability, latency, and infrastructure cost.
- Write clear code, participate in design and code reviews, and measure the results of what you ship.
- Use AI agents thoughtfully as part of the engineering process.
What we're looking for
- A new graduate with strong computer science and software engineering fundamentals.
- At least one of the following: a gold medal or equivalent top academic distinction, a strong competitive programming record, or meaningful open-source contributions. One is enough; this is not a collectibles quest.
- A project, product, library, or system you built and can explain end to end.
- The ability to turn an ambiguous problem into working software.
- High ownership, curiosity, and clear communication.
Nice to have
- Experience with TypeScript, backend systems, databases, or distributed systems.
- Familiarity with AI agents, model APIs, evaluations, or sandboxed execution.
- Contributions used by people outside a classroom or competition.
How we work
- Interns work on production code. This is not a shadowing program.
- Agents produce a lot of our code; engineering judgment still decides what reaches production.
- We prefer small changes and proven systems over speculative architecture. Boring technology is welcome when it works.
Hiring process
- A 15-minute introduction call with a founder.
- A work-day trial in our office. You will work on a real problem with the team so both sides can see what the internship is actually like.
